how to become efficient in the day-to-day operations of your business

Why Efficiency Is a Business Must

Last Updated on March 21, 2019 by Paula

There isn’t a business owner out there who doesn’t realize the importance of being efficient and increasing their productivity, but many have a long ways to go before they can truly feel their business is operating efficiently.

So many times their progress is blocked by the common entrepreneurial mindset that the business owner is the best person to take on each and every role. But what this mindset leads to is a giant and overwhelming to-do list, that includes many background recurring tasks such as bookkeeping, marketing, social media, administration, website updates and more.

Dealing with these recurring tasks rather than the core business operations leads to a lot of wasted time, a loss of momentum, a bottleneck to productivity, lost opportunities to serve customers, stunted business growth and an overall reduction in potential income. None of these are good things!

Basically, it means you need to spend longer at work to achieve the same outcome. You end up regularly working unnecessarily long hours to make sure you get everything done. If you’re even able to get everything done.

Putting in place efficient processes will keep your business running smoothly, and allow you to focus on the most essential business tasks. Your business will then have a solid platform from which you can operate and grow.

Here are two key approaches on how to become more efficient in the day-to-day operations of your business:

Standard Operating Procedures

Businesses of all sizes benefit from establishing and implementing standard operating procedures or SOPs. I’ve been in retail for over 18 years where SOPs are a must as each store does the same things every day. SOP’s are invaluable to your business! They help improve customer service, increase efficiency and save a ton of time!

There’s no need to reinvent processes every time you carry out a task, or the phrasing of communications every time you contact a customer. Really think through your daily procedures… which ones could be more efficient, and which ones could be replaced or bolstered by an online platform?

Focus on Your Strengths and Delegate to a Virtual Assistant

An absolute must to developing a successful business that allows you the freedom to also enjoy life is to learn to delegate tasks and roles within your business.

For many, growing their business means bringing in support, but all too often people wait until they’re stretched for time and struggling before doing so.

The real key to growth is to recognize your strengths, your core talents and focus on your role within your business. You need to truly focus on those tasks that only you can do, serving your customers and delivering your product or service. All the other background tasks such as editing, bookkeeping, social media management and website updates, can be handled by your incredibly efficient virtual assistant!

This approach will help you to take huge steps towards operating a successful business – and more importantly, one you actually enjoy running!

Having a virtual assistant, or even a virtual support team, doesn’t just increase your efficiency and productivity, they inject creative ideas into your business too. Virtual assistants improve your communications and customer service and provide you with the opportunity to fully focus on your main income generating tasks. All of which will lead to business growth, increased profits, not to mention getting your work/life balance back.

You’ll finally be able to reach both the income level and the degree of freedom you dreamed about when launching your business!
