How to keep up with business tasks during the holidays

The holidays are fast approaching, and as a business owner, this can be a tough time of year. You have to balance time with your family and running your business. Just because it’s the holiday season doesn’t mean you need to close down entirely for the holidays! Here are a few tips to help you keep up with running a business during the holidays.

Prepare your calendar ahead of time

Will you be taking off certain days? What days do holidays fall on? These are important dates to not only note in your calendar but know ahead of time. This will help you prepare your end of year tax documents, inventory, and anything else you need to do for your business before closing up shop for the holidays. This also gives you ample time to notify your customers of what days you’ll be taking off.

Schedule your marketing

Do you want to have email campaigns sent out while you’re away? Do you want to have social media posts scheduled? These are some ways you can stay connected in your business without having to be in your office! This will allow you to keep marketing your business even if you aren’t there! Use this time to start preparing for the upcoming months so you can easily put your marketing on autopilot while you’re away.

Stay organized

Organization is key to balance the holiday season and your business during the holidays. Make a list for your business and your personal life to help make juggling the two easier. It’s all about balance, and the best way to do this is by staying organized! It can even help to dedicate some days to your business and some days to your personal life like shopping for gifts etc.

Offer a holiday sale

Holiday sales can work for any business! If you don’t offer a product that you can sell, you can still take advantage of affiliate marketing to let your readers know about upcoming sales they might be interested in! This is a great way to build a connection over the holidays and increase foot traffic during a typically dead time for most online businesses.

Throw in a gift or two

Who doesn’t love a free gift? Gift guides are very popular during the fall and winter months because they help readers figure out what to buy for their significant other! Help your customers cross a few things off their list by offering some of your gifts too! You can even create bundle deals in your shop or special offers to entice people to buy during the holidays.

Stay active over email and social media

During your time off, it’s important to be present on social media and email during the holidays. When you wake up in the morning, take a few moments to check in on your business and see how things are going. Spend just 15 minutes, making sure that nothing is urgent, and make notes of anything that needs your attention when you’re back in the office.

Relax

Remember that while this is a time of year to continue working, it’s also a time to relax. It’s okay to take some days off and to embrace all that the holiday season has to offer. Use this time to enjoy some time for yourself and not work through the holidays. We rarely get this kind of time off, so embrace it and make the most of it!

Put your business on autopilot

Scheduling your marketing efforts can help drive your business traffic even when you’re not at your desk. However, there are other ways you can put your business on autopilot. Create content for your blog or website in advance and schedule it out during your time off. Hire a virtual assistant to take care of your email and answer comments while you’re away. You can even set up automatic deposits to handle your paychecks for you! Take advantage of these tips to help not only make putting your business on autopilot easier but reduce the need for you to interrupt your holiday break.

It’s all about balance

You cannot serve your customers if you have burnt yourself out. Ensure that you are balancing everything related to your business and your personal life during this busy month. Ensure that you are taking precautions to ensure you don’t miss deadlines because they still happen even with the holidays. Take into account things like longer shipping times and even holiday slumps in an online business. The more prepared you are, the better you can plan and balance your business and life during the holidays.

No matter what holiday you celebrate this holiday season, hopefully, these tips will help you be better prepared for the holidays to come. I also hope that these tips inspire you to take some time off this holiday season to spend it with your loved ones.
