At the start of Gina Horkey’s course *30 Days or Less to Virtual Assistant Success, she suggests doing check-ins on your progress every so often. And I’ve now hit one month since I started her course, so let’s see how I’m doing!
But before we do that, I want to talk a little about what finally made me decide to sign up!
I had been eyeing Gina’s course for a while. It sounded amazing! Getting paid to do the things that I love! Things like writing Tweets and Facebook posts, creating graphics for blogs and Pinterest, helping others promote their businesses, and so much more!
But I was still hesitant. What if I hated it? What if I sucked at it?
Then one really terrible night at work I decided to go for it! While I’m at a job that I’m good at, great at actually, it doesn’t bring the joy that it once did. So I figured what did I have to lose?!
And I signed up! Best. Decision. Ever!

What has happened since…
This is what all has changed in the past month. Keep in mind that I haven’t even finished the course yet! At the time of writing this, I am 74% of the way through.
I have my business website up! I have an actual business that needs a website! Pretty awesome right?! One question that comes up a lot is, do you actually need a website to be a virtual assistant? The answer is no you don’t have to, but I knew that I wanted one. I love working on websites! And I know it’s a great way to show potential clients what I can do.
And I chose to include a blog here. Which isn’t something that you must have to be a virtual assistant, but it’s a great way to showcase your writing skills! Besides I love writing! How can I not have a blog here?!
I also bought a domain name for my business. I chose to go with my name as my domain for three reasons. One, almost every business name I came up with was already taken. Two, I didn’t want not being able to come up with a name to halt my progress. And three, I hope to expand into freelance writing and proofreading down the road, so just using my name doesn’t limit me on my services in any way.
I did eventually find a business name that I like – PSH Virtual Solutions is my official name. 🙂 Again, it’s a name that isn’t limiting in what I offer in business.
I told my family and quite a few of my friends about my journey. Most of them don’t really understand what a VA is but they seem happy for me. And my husband, who understands what a VA does, is very supportive and proud of me for taking this chance. I don’t know what I’d do without him!
Now for the most exciting part of this whole story! I already have two clients! People! This is amazing!
And my two clients are fantastic! I am totally blessed to have found two ladies who are growing communities with their blogs and businesses. These are the kind of people I want to work with!
Gina’s course*, it works! I’m proof of that!
One last thing…
I do want to mention that I don’t hate my day job. I wouldn’t have stayed with it for 17 years if I had! And without that day job, I wouldn’t have the confidence to step out on my own and start my own business! And for that, I’m truly thankful!
But the work that I am able to do as a virtual assistant is work that I’ve always loved and been passionate about! Before it was just a hobby, but now I’m able to take those skills I developed and help influencers and entrepreneurs grow their businesses! And that is truly what it’s all about!
Now tell me, what are you passionate about? Have you ever taken a chance on your dreams? If you haven’t why not? Let me know in the comments!

I am so excited for this new adventure for you. You have one of the most helpful attitudes I’ve ever seen and this seems like a perfect fit for you. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Sara! You’ve always been an encouragement to me! 🙂
Your story is such an inspiration! I just finished the course and it’s only been 3 weeks since purchasing it. I hope to get 1 or 2 clients by the end of the month.
Good luck to you Malissa! And thank you! 🙂
