The fresh start of a new year always makes me so happy! And the beginning of a new year is a great time to make sure everything in your business is running smoothly. Including your website!
Your website is often the first impression potential clients have of your coaching or service provider business. And we want to make sure that your website is up to date so that first impression is a good one!
To help you out, I’ve created a quick and simple website checkup for you to audit your website for the new year (or anytime it needs a refresh). By the time you’re done, your site will feel fresh and ready to attract your ideal clients!
1. Are Your Call-to-Actions (CTAs) Up to Date?
Your call-to-actions are the heart of your website’s functionality. They’re the buttons, links, and text that encourage potential clients to take action—whether it’s scheduling a discovery call, signing up for your newsletter, or purchasing a service.
Your CTA Checklist
- Are your CTAs aligned with your current offerings? If you’ve added new services or retired old ones, be sure to update your CTAs to reflect those changes.
- Do the links work? Test each CTA to make sure it directs visitors to the correct page.
- Is the copy clear and inviting? Phrases like “Schedule Your Free Consultation” or “Start Your Journey Today” encourage action.
If you’re not seeing the results you want from your CTAs, consider tweaking the design or placement. A more prominent button or a bolder color can increase the visibility of your buttons.
2. Is Your Media Page Current?
Your media page is a valuable space for showcasing your expertise and building credibility. Whether you’ve been a guest on podcasts, spoken at events, or contributed articles to publications, this page should show off your most recent accomplishments.
Your Media Page Checklist
- Add new features. If you’ve been spotlighted in a podcast or featured in a blog post recently, make sure to include it.
- Remove outdated or irrelevant items. If you have features that no longer represent your brand, it’s okay to let them go.
- Check links and formatting. Ensure all links are work and that the page looks polished and professional.
3. Is Your SSL Certificate Up to Date?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates are a must have for website security. They encrypt the data exchanged between your website and its visitors, keeping sensitive information safe. Plus, having an SSL certificate ensures your website displays as “secure” in browsers, which builds trust with your audience.
Your SSL Certificate Checklist
- Look for a padlock icon in your browser’s address bar when you visit your website. If it’s missing, you may have SSL issues.
- If your certificate is about to expire, renew it through your hosting provider or domain registrar.
Why is this so important? Well, a secure website isn’t just good practice; it’s also a ranking factor for Google. An SSL certificate can help with SEO while keeping your visitors safe.
4. Review Your Website on Mobile
If you’re a faith-based coach and service provider, you can bet that a large percentage of your audience is browsing your site while they are on the go! So it’s essential to ensure your website looks and functions correctly on mobile devices.
Your Mobile Review Checklist
- Navigation – Can visitors easily find what they’re looking for?
- Text readability – Is the font size large enough to read comfortably?
- Images and videos – Are they displaying correctly without cropping or overlapping?
- Buttons and forms – Are they easy to click and fill out on mobile devices?
Use your smartphone to browse your site and take notes on anything that feels clunky or out of place.
5. Update Your Headshots
When was the last time you updated your headshot on your website? If it’s been a while, now’s the perfect time to give your online presence a fresh look.
Your Headshot Checklist
- Include recent headshots on your home and about pages to helps potential clients feel like they know who they’re working with.
- Update your profile picture on social media too so that you maintain consistency across your brand.
If you don’t have a current headshot, plan a session with a photographer. For tips on where to use your headshot on your site, check out my previous post with tips for adding headshots to your website!
6. Update Your Copyright Year
If your website’s footer still says 2024 (or earlier!), it’s time for a quick update. Details like this show visitors that your website is still active. You don’t want to look like you’re out of business!
Your Copyright Year Checklist
- If you’re using a WordPress theme, check if the footer updates automatically. Some themes pull the current year dynamically.
- If it doesn’t, manually change the year in your website’s footer settings or theme editor.
A Few More Tips for Your New Year Website Checkup
While you’re in the process of auditing your site, consider tackling these additional updates:
- Test your forms – Ensure contact forms, newsletter signups, and service inquiries are working as intended.
- Clean up your plugins – Deactivate and delete any plugins you’re no longer using to improve site speed and security.
- Optimize images – Large image files can slow down your website. Use tools like TinyPNG to compress images without sacrificing quality.
- Update testimonials – Add new client testimonials or success stories to showcase your recent work.
Your website is one of the most powerful tools in your business! Taking the time to perform a quick checkup at the start of the year ensures it’s working hard for you so you can present your best self to potential clients
This simple checklist is a great way to get started, but if you feel overwhelmed or want a more in-depth review, I’d love to help! Reach out for a consultation, and let’s make 2025 the year your website truly shines.
