With over a billion monthly active users on Facebook, you can’t ignore this amazing social media platform. It’s the most used, the most active, and pretty much everyone is on there, sometimes all day long. If you can’t find your audience on Facebook they are either too young, or they don’t exist.
This is the big social media platform with many different places to post and share. Let’s look at a few.
Personal Profiles
Everyone must have a personal profile. It’s against Facebook’s terms of service to use a fake name as your personal profile. You need to be authentically you! While there are privacy settings, if you’re going to do business on Facebook you really need to keep a lot of your personal profile public so that people can look at your business information, and get links to other online real-estate in which to connect with you.
Pages
Then there are pages. There are all kinds of pages such as local business or place, company, organization, or institution, brand or product, artist, band or public figure, entertainment, cause or community pages. For example, if your brand represents you under your name, such as a life coach, public speaker or an author, create a public figure page. It’s important to have a business page too so that you can run ads.
Groups
A group is like a mini-community inside of Facebook. A group can be open, secret, or closed. Open groups everyone can see who is in the group and what they post even if they’re not members. A secret group, others can see who is in the group, the name of the group, but not what they post unless they are members. A secret group does not appear in search results and only members can see the member’s list and posts.
Messenger
Most people think of messenger to chat privately with others on Facebook. But, it’s also a great way to generate traffic and use to communicate with people who like your page. Therefore, ensure that you enable messages on your pages, configure message settings, and you can set up instant replies of 250 characters or less automating some of your communication with your audience.
Additionally, there are many different types of posts that you can use to get attention and gain traffic. Such as hyperlinks, text, images, video, and live video. You can use these features throughout Facebook to get the most from the content you share.
Tips to Get the Most Traffic from Facebook
Using Facebook properly to drive traffic is actually very easy. There are so many ways to get traffic that I can’t fit every single one of them in this post. But, these are the most popular and effective ways to drive traffic to your website or blog with the content you share on Facebook.
Use Stand Out Images in The Right Size
Facebook often changes their size requirements so please check before you create an image. Even if you checked last week, check again, right before you create the images. Whatever size they say to use, stick to that size because it will use the space for maximum results.
Create Short Updates
You want people to click through to your website. The best way to do that is to include a link to where you want them to go. You can use a short link from one of the shortening link sites to save text space and make your post look cleaner. Provide a teaser for the content that they’ll see when they click. If you want to give more information provide it in the comments section.
Ask Questions
Facebook has a poll feature that you can use, but you can also just ask a question directly. Make the question related to what the blog post or article you’re linking to discusses. That way, they click through to read the blog post, then they come back to answer your question.
Include a Quote from The Content
When you’re sharing content one way to get their attention is to share a compelling quote directly from the content you want them to click through to read. If you turn this into a meme that shows up very strongly in the feed it’ll work even better. But, remember to include at least 140 or so characters in the post itself even though you have the image with the quote.
Fill Out Descriptions
For every image, you upload there is a spot for a description that when shared, will go with the image. Your post on top of the image may not carry over in a share always, but the description area will go with the image.
Finish All Profiles & Set Ups
Whether it’s a personal page, a professional page, or a group it’s imperative that you develop out the profiles as fully as possible. There are a lot of bells and whistles to use on Facebook that is incorporated into the system that doesn’t even need third-party apps to discover.
Create Compelling Headers
Each page, profile, and group allow you to put up a profile image as well as a header for the community. Check which size is best and create it with your overall branding in mind. Remember that you want your audience to know it’s you without too much trouble. Do use your smiling face as the profile picture regardless of if it’s a business page or not over a logo. However, you can include your logo but people want to see your Face on Facebook.
Host Contests
There are third-party apps that you can use to host contests on your Facebook Pages. Software from Wishpond.com offers social media promotional software and apps that let you run Facebook approved contests. Remember to make the prize something only your audience would want so that you don’t get too many freebie seekers entering the contest.
Remind them of Content You Shared
Each week or whenever you want to, compile a round-up of all the content you’ve shared with them during the week that they loved or that you loved. This can start with a blog roundup on your website shared on Facebook. This will garner more traffic to your site. Remember, every post should have a link back to your landing pages.
Use More Video
Facebook is really ramping up their use of video and encouraging it. It’s easier than ever for anyone to conduct a Facebook Live event on their pages, groups, and personal pages. But you can also use recorded video. Keep them short and sweet for maximum impact! Shoot for just under 10 seconds for best results.
Engage with Others
Social media is supposed to be a way for people to socialize with each other which requires communication to be both ways. Sharing other people’s content, if it’s relevant to your audience, is a great way of building the content you have on Facebook but also attracting more likes and followers. The best practice for this is to share it from their Facebook Page to yours so that it includes their FB link. Plus, they’re likely to do it for you too.
Pay to Play
It upsets a lot of people to think about having to pay for advertising to get traffic. But, if all your content is ready, your products are ready, and you’re finished trying all the SEO options you have learned about it’s time to start paying for ads. Thankfully, on Facebook running a promotion is simple, effective, and inexpensive.
Be Patient
It’s up to you (or your virtual assistant) to encourage engagement, share plenty of content, and build up some stream and activity to get traffic. Engage in groups that you created and groups that others created.
Comment in a way that ads value so that you can show what you know without being overly sales oriented. Other than running advertisements, it can take some time to move members to like your page, to being part of your groups, and then go to your site to sign up for your email list and/or make purchases.
The great thing about finding and creating content for Facebook is that it can be any type of content. They all work great on Facebook if they’re of interest to your audience. It doesn’t matter if it’s a video, a text post, a meme, or something else if it relates to your audience it will work to drive traffic.
